In this article, we will explain how to configure and use 3PT, also known as third-party billing, for your order shipments. This feature allows you to charge shipping labels to your own or another carrier's account. Please note that it is only available for FedEx and UPS.

Introduction

Third-party billing (3PT) is a feature in Shipedge that allows shipping label charges to be applied directly to a specific carrier account, whether it’s your own or someone else’s. This functionality helps manage and control shipping label costs effectively. Currently, 3PT is only available for FedEx and UPS carriers.

You can configure 3PT either through the OMS or with the help of your warehouse team:

  • Through the OMS: Assign a specific carrier account to orders from a specific sales channel or template. This configuration will automatically apply to all orders from the chosen source.

  • Through the WMS: Your warehouse team can set up a 3PT account to apply to all orders from a specific source channel, including orders without a specified source channel (e.g., manual orders). Please confirm the availability of this setup with your warehouse team.

Important considerations

  1. 3PT will be applied to all orders entered using the specific sales channel or template

  2. For manual or API orders, the specific sales channel or template must be specified.

Configuration

As stated, 3PT is configured for orders from a specific template or sales channels. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to OMS → Orders → Integrations.

  2. Find the sales channel or template you want to work with.

  3. Click on the left icon (General Configuration) and select the 3PT Configuration option:

  4. The first pop-up window will appear, select the carrier you'll configure this for. It can FedEx or UPS:

  5. The second pop-up window will appear. Fill in the required information as prompted. The information needed is the same for all carriers.

However, if you select the 'Use for duty payment' option for FedEx, you must provide a phone number, so be sure to fill in this field.

The required fields are highlighted in red. Click Create when you are done or Update in case you are editing the information.

  1. Carrier Pay Account: Enter the carrier account number. This is the account to which the shipping label cost will be charged.

  2. Company Name: Enter the company name you wish to use.

  3. Other Billing Details: Provide additional details to be used for billing purposes.

  4. Duty Payment: Used for international shipments. If activated, extra costs like taxes and duties will also be charged to the specified carrier account.

  5. Active: Specify whether to activate this configuration or not.

  6. Phone number: Enter a phone number. Remember, this is a required field for FedEx if you select the 'Use for duty payment' option.

Managing 3rd Party Billing (3PT)

You can manage the 3PT configurations from the 3PT management view.

  1. Access it from your OMS → Orders → 3PT Management:

  2. From this view, you can edit any of the existing configurations by selecting the desired 3PT account. Just click the three-dot menu Edit:

  3. A pop will appear, similar to the one used when creating the 3PT. You'll see there is an additional option in this view called Add Acc# To Packing Slip. Use this in case you want the third-party account number to be added to the packing slip.

Note: It is not possible to delete or add new 3PT configurations from this view. You can deactivate all three 3PT accounts you no longer want to use.
