Why it's important
Labeling in your warehouse with barcoded labels helps your team know if they are in the right place with the right product and is used for most workflows, both on the web and in the mobile app.
Locations vs Bins
A bin is a group of the same products, which could be in a box, a pallet, a specific stack of items, etc.. A bin can only contain one specific SKU to ensure storage, picking accuracy, and inventory data health.
A bin of items belongs in a location, and a location can have many bins inside of it. Understanding this relationship makes it easier to use the system as well as stay organized.
Both will have their own unique labels, and understanding where to place those labels is important for a great setup.
Location Labels
Barcoding locations within the warehouse helps identify where to look for specific bins.
Location barcodes can also be scanned to create new bins when receiving inventory. For example, on the mobile app, when you receive new inventory and scan it into a location instead of a bin, it automatically creates a new bin there that you can print the label for later.
This also works when you need to swap locations for a bin in inventory control; it will ask you to scan a new location for the bin.
These should be placed above a specific bay in pallet racking.
Bin Labels
Barcoding bins allows you to quickly receive, pick, move, and recount inventory while maintaining a high level of accuracy. The bin barcode is required for most mobile-based workflows as well as some web-based workflows.
These barcodes belong on the container of a specific group of products.
Generating and Printing Labels
You can genrate and print labels for both locations and bins by navigating in the WMS to Inventory > Locations, then selecting either locations or bins and using the Actions button to select "Print Labels".
You can always receive your product into a location to generate bins then print their bin labels later.
If you need to generate bins without receiving product and prefer to preprint labels for a specific location you will need to generate empty bins first.
